Textiles

Textiles sits within the Creative Arts Faculty. The Creative Arts Faculty intends to deliver a vibrant and dynamic curriculum from Year 7 - 13 which gives students the freedom to explore their creativity, inspires design ideas, whilst equipping them with the skills to continue the subject with confidence at GCSE, A-Level and beyond.

KS3 (Year 7 –9)

Textiles, graphic communication and food are taught in a one-term carousel system, where two tutor groups are split into three equal-sized classes and rotate between the three specialisms. Current projects for textiles are as follows:

  • Year 7 - Cultural cushion: students explore decorative techniques of resist dyeing, fabric painting, appliqué and stencilling and are introduced to the sewing machine.
  • Year 8 - Fabric roll-up: students explore and develop pattern making skills to produce a functional yet decorative fabric roll designed for a particular customer and use more complex construction techniques on the sewing machine.
  • Year 9 - Adorn, decorate and embellish: students investigate fashion designers, develop fashion-drawing skills and apply decorative and embellishing techniques to existing garments.

GCSE and A-Level

Currently, we do not offer textiles at GCSE or A-Level.
