Welcome to Year 7
Charlotte Lewis, Head of Year 7
As Head of Learning for Year 7, I would like to offer you a warm welcome to Beaconsfield High School. Leaving primary school is a big step in a child’s educational journey. It can be a daunting experience for students and parents, which is why it is important to us that this transition is a smooth and enjoyable one.
Our staff are experienced at creating a welcoming and nurturing atmosphere for all our new students, helping them deal with issues like making friends, getting to grips with homework and even getting the right bus home.
Before students join us in September, our transition programme gives them the opportunity to come into school, get used to the surroundings, meet staff and students, and get a real feel for what life at Beaconsfield High is like. The aim of this being that students feel confident and prepared when they officially join us in September.
Life will always throw up challenges, but I am dedicated to ensuring that my students feel happy and safe at school, which, in turn, allows them to thrive in whatever path they choose to take.
Meet Louisa in Year 7
The first couple of weeks at Becky High were a whirlwind of new experiences and challenges. For example, getting used to the school schedule, navigating the hallways, and changing what you are used to, like having lots of different subjects. The teachers were always willing to lend a helping hand and provide guidance whenever needed. Their kindness and dedication to our success made the transition into secondary school smoother.
One of the most amazing aspects of joining Becky High was the friendships formed. It was amazing to talk with people who shared similar interests and passions. From chatting in the hallways to teaming up for group projects, the bonds created during those early days have lasted throughout the school year.
The sense of community and support amongst students made it easy to feel like I belonged. If you don’t make friends on the first day, it’s alright. To be honest, it might take a few weeks, months, terms even, to feel like you fit in, but for me what helped was doing those extracurricular clubs that Becky High offers.
In conclusion, joining Becky High was an adventure filled with new friendships, exciting challenges, and supportive teachers. Induction day, summer camp, making friends, adjusting to the first couple of weeks, and interacting with friendly and helpful teachers all contributed to a positive and memorable start to secondary school. The experiences and memories made during those early days have set the foundation for a successful academic year ahead. So, embrace the journey, make new friends, and enjoy every moment at Becky High!
Meet Em in Year 7
The clubs at BHS are amazing and there is such a variety that at least one will appeal to everyone, if not many more! There are so many opportunities to go on trips, especially if you’re in a sports team. I went on a trip to Aylesbury Grammar School for the Bucks Book Awards, and it was really fun taking part in the quiz, visiting the school, and hearing the guest speaker! Our library has a wide selection of books to choose from and the Book of the Month is a great way of discovering new authors and works. We can visit at most times, as long as it isn’t busy.
More on trips! Bushcraft is coming up in May, everything I’ve heard about it is positive, and I can’t wait for all the things we are going to do there! All the activities seem fun, not to mention the camping!
