    Our intent is for all students to experience outstanding physical education, physical activity and school sport, leading to lifelong participation in sport. Through our curriculum, we foster personal responsibility, equipping our students with lifelong skills that transfer into their everyday lives, giving them the opportunity to develop into healthy, active citizens of the future. We provide an enthusiastic and enjoyable learning environment, whilst offering opportunities for progress along the pathway to excellence for our more talented students. 

    Our facilities include a purpose-built sports hall suitable for indoor hockey, badminton, football and basketball. We have four changing rooms each equipped with toilets, a white board, benches and pegs, a full-sized Astro with hockey goals, four tennis courts/ netball courts and a large field with a long jump pit and football goals.

    KS3 (Years 7 – 9) 

    Students in Years 7 - 8 have three lessons of PE over two weeks and Year 9 have two lessons over two weeks. Students are offered an exciting range of sporting activities, including hockey, netball, football, gymnastics, badminton, table tennis, fitness, tennis, trampolining, athletics and softball.  Students develop a range of core skills in these activities, in addition to problem-solving skills and the ability to apply basic tactics and strategies within game and practice contexts.  Lessons promote active lifestyles, and we offer students the opportunity to experience the role of coach, leader and umpire, as well as performer. 

    Core PE: KS4 (Year 10 – 11) 

    All students have two, one hour PE lessons a week which build on the core skills and tactical abilities learnt in Years 7 – 9 but with a greater understanding and enjoyment. We offer a refined core curriculum pathway which allows students to find a physical activity that they will (hopefully) continue ionce they leave school. Students can opt for the aesthetics, games or combined route and can also complete a recognised sports leadership qualification.  Allowing students to have ownership and control over their physical activity promotes a more collaborative approach to learning between students and staff. We also offer Sports Leadership Level 2 qualification.  

    GSCE PE 

    Students who choose GCSE PE will learn about a wide variety of topics, ranging from the reason athletes take performance-enhancing drugs to what constitutes a balanced diet. The GCSE is split into two theory topics (60%): 

    1. The human body and movement in physical activity and sport: Applied anatomy and physiology, movement analysis and physical training. 

    1. Socio-cultural influences and well-being in physical activity and sport: Sports psychology, socio-cultural influences, and health, fitness and wellbeing.  

    The final 40% is practical and students must perform competitively in three sports. For more information on the GCSE course, download our GCSE Options Guide. 

    Core PE: KS5 (Years 12 – 13) 

    Through the provision of Wednesday Afternoon Enrichment, we provide both competitive and recreational sporting experiences, and the option to volunteer with a local community project.  Sports teams train and take part in fixtures, and we run recreational sports sessions where students decide the activities; dance is led by students and yoga and squash are led by specialist instructors. We also offer the Level 3 Sports Leadership course which we run alongside primary link work. 

    A-Level PE 

    A-Level PE is an all-encompassing subject that links together many areas of study whilst focusing on sport. Biology, physics, psychology and sociology are all embedded, making it a rounded subject. Each area is linked to sport - how our body functions in relation to sport and physical activity, enabling students to really understand how and why our body does what it does in everyday life.
