We want to enthuse students about maths, to give them confidence and appreciation of not just the applications (although they are very important) but also the beauty of the subject.   

We have an experienced, energetic and enthusiastic department at Beaconsfield High with highly qualified and motivated staff who are passionate about the subject and are delighted to share their expertise. Our aim is to provide a variety of approaches using different resources to keep lessons challenging and interesting. We set the students by ability in parallel sets from Year 8 to create a good level of challenge in the classroom and to ensure that some students can access Further Maths Level 2 AQA at the end of Year 11.   

The Maths Department firmly believes in innovation, energy and enthusiasm in our teaching and learning and our hope is that students enjoy our lessons and feel challenged whilst in a secure, supportive environment.

KS3 (Year 7 – 9) 

Students use the Collins Maths Frameworking Scheme, which provides excellent challenge in all areas of the curriculum, alongside problem-solving, investigational and practical work.  From Year 8, students are set work that allows them to study in an environment which progresses at the correct pace. We want our students to feel secure in their surroundings for mathematics to be an enjoyable, stimulating, and worthwhile experience. 

GCSE (Year 10 – 11) 

We use the Collins Connect online workbook and MyMaths alongside a range of other resources including MathsWatch, which includes tutorial videos.  All students sit the Higher GCSE and the school gains excellent results in the summer. We have a high proportion of students who take A-Level Mathematics and Further Maths, many of whom continue their studies at university. A-Level (Year 12 – 13) 

A-Level Maths is an excellent foundation for both further study and employment. It remains a particularly impressive qualification that demonstrates core intelligence, a logical mind, and excellent problem-solving skills.  Over two years, students study modules of Pure Mathematics and two applied modules, Statistics and Mechanics.   

A-Level Further Maths is an excellent foundation for both further study and employment. It is a particularly impressive qualification that demonstrates core intelligence, a logical mind and excellent problem-solving skills. This course can only be taken as a 4th A-Level in addition to A-Level Maths.
