  • Admissions and Apply

We welcome students who are driven, have a strong work ethic, are academically ambitious with a vision for their future. Our A-Level programme blends academia with leadership, creativity, teamwork, resilience and independent thinking. We believe it is this combination of learning and involvement that prepares you for life after Becky High Sixth. Our staff - talented subject specialists with broad life experience - prefer a respectful and collaborative approach when working with sixth form students and, in return, we encourage independence, commitment and maximum effort from you.

The Sixth Form Team works closely with the Student Leadership Team to ensure we are providing everything our sixth form students need to thrive and excel. Once you join us, we work hard to develop your character, foster your acumen and build your future aspirations.

    Grade Requirements

    • GCSE Maths and English Language must be at Grade 5 or above
    • You must achieve a minimum of 44 points from your best eight full course GCSEs
    • You must achieve the minimum GCSE grades required in your intended subjects of study, as detailed on page 23 of our prospectus here
    • We must receive a recommendation from your current school (external students only).

Most Becky High Sixth students study three A-Levels and an EPQ. The option to study four A-Levels is only a possibility for applicants achieving at least 64 points from their best eight GCSEs. Students wishing to study further maths as a fourth A-Level who have not quite achieved the minimum of 64 points but show a real strength in maths and further maths at GCSE will be considered on a case-by-case basis. GCSE point scores will be calculated as below:

    Grade 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
    Point Score 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1

Please revisit this page in November 2024 for details on how to apply to join Becky High Sixth in September 2025.

Note: We will do everything we can to run the courses outlined in our curriculum. However, where we don’t have sufficient interest, we may not be able to run certain courses, but we will work with you to find another that is suited to your strengths and your future aspirations. Any student wishing to change their A-Level subjects once they have started the course in September of their Year 12 will only be able to do so up to the end of September. This allows all students to experience four weeks of the teaching cycle (weeks A and B) in all their subjects.

    A-Level Options

Students must enjoy what they are going to be studying; two years is a long time and the hard work and dedication required to ensure success has to be balanced with real enthusiasm and motivation. Enjoyment comes when we spend time doing what we are good at, so we encourage students to consider carefully where their strengths lie. A description of the A-Level options we can offer can be found in our A-Level Options Guide below. However, the offering differs year-on-year depending on how many students sign up for each subject, staffing and our option blocks.

    Admissions FAQ

Are the entry requirements the same for external applicants as they are for existing students?

The application process and requirements are the same, although every applicant is reviewed and considered individually.

What is the dress code for sixth formers?

The Becky High Sixth dress code is designed to allow students to express their individuality and personal style within the confines of a school environment. Students are encouraged to look smart at all times. Leisurewear, including leggings and hoodies, is not permitted.

I’m thinking about taking a fourth A-Level. What do I need to consider?

We highly recommend that only the most able students, achieving at least 64 points from their best eight GCSEs, should consider taking four A-Levels. You should consider all other commitments, as the results for your best three A-Levels should remain the priority.

What are facilitating subjects? Do I need to study three to get a place at university?

The eight recognised facilitating subjects are mathematics and further mathematics, English Literature, physics, biology, chemistry, geography, history and languages (classical and modern). Not all of your courses have to be facilitating subjects, although if you are unsure at this stage what you would like to study at university, taking at least two facilitating subjects will give you a wider range of choice.

Do I have to do the EPQ as part of my A-Level programme? I’d rather focus on another area of interest.

The EPQ is widely recognised and valued by universities, and by including it in the programme we are ensuring you have the best possible opportunity to access your preferred university.
